Building and Sustaining Maternal Health Research Partnerships (Chicago)

This workshop will provide practitioners and academics with a framework to conduct translational maternal health research. The workshop will describe the process of building and sustaining partnerships to conduct academic research in clinical settings. The goals are to strengthen researchers and to provide best practices of engagement in research partnerships.

All courses offered through the NASW-Illinois Chapter meet the continuing education qualifications for LSWs, LCSWs, LPCs, LCPCs, LMFTs, RNs, LPNs, APNs, and LCPs licensed in Illinois as required by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR).

Speakers: Hellen McDonald graduated from UIUC, School of Social Work in 1998 with a MSW, mental health concentration. She received a bachelor’s in psychology and speech communication from Blackburn College in 1989. She has experience working in inpatient and outpatient settings, with children, adolescents, adults and older adults. She has managed a community-based program for older adults and clinically supervised therapists in a social service agency. Straight out of grad school, she worked as a home health/hospice social worker at a local hospital. She opened up her own private psychotherapy practice in 2006, working with all sorts of issues and life challenges, showing a special interest in Perinatal Mood Disorders.

Dr. Tabb Dina’s current research focuses on identifying major risk factors associated with depressive disorders, and approaches for identifying and assessing depressive symptoms in health care settings to improve health outcomes for women. She is collecting primary data through depression registries in a racially and ethnically diverse public health clinic and in an OB/GYN clinic with support from the National Institute of Minority Health Disparities and the Campus Research Board. Dr. Tabb Dina is also an expert collaborator (in the areas of diabetes, mental health, maternal health, and North America) for the Global Burden of Disease Study where she assists in estimating population morbidity and mortality for 188 countries.
