The Ethics of Cultural Competency: Best Practices Managing Dilemmas, Boundaries, and Self-Care

NOTE: This event requires a minimum number of registrants to take place. Registrants will be notified in advance of event date to confirm event. Registrants will be refunded in full if event is canceled. 

This is a West Central District event. Issues of cultural competency arise when confronted with ethical dilemmas. Participants will learn to identify culturally related dilemmas and apply decision-making steps for successful resolution.

This course fulfills 3.0 ethics hours AND 3.0 cultural competency hours required for LSW/LCSW renewal. All courses offered through the NASW-Illinois Chapter meet the continuing education qualifications for LSWs, LCSWs, LPCs, LCPCs, LMFTs, RNs, LPNs, APNs, and LCPs licensed in Illinois as required by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR).

Speaker: Ruth Lipschutz, LCSW, ACSW, received her MSW from the University of Illinois in 1978 and went on to complete the two-year postgraduate training program at the Institute for Family Studies at Northwestern University. She has presented workshops locally and nationally for over twenty-five years and has written numerous ethics articles for the NASW Illinois Chapter News Letter. She has served as the chairperson of NASW’s National Ethics Committee and participated in multiple ethics task force efforts. She currently serves as a panelist, consultant, mediator and trainer for the NASW Illinois Chapter Ethics Committee and serves as a member-at-large on the NASW Illinois Chapter Board. She has a private practice and offers ethics consultation and training to social workers.
