American with Disabilities Act: What Social Workers Need to Know

This Southern District Cutural Competency CEU event will help attendees understand the rights of employees and college students (reasonable accommodations, disability disclosure, expulsion based on mental health), obligations of social workers, and community integration.

Attended in full, this workshop fulfills cultural competency requirements for licensure renewal. All courses offered through the NASW-Illinois Chapter meet the continuing education qualifications for LSWs, LCSWs, LPCs, LCPCs, LMFTs, RNs, LPNs, APNs, and LCPs licensed in Illinois as required by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR).

Speaker: Rachel Weisberg is a Staff Attorney at Equip for Equality where she has represented hundreds of clients in disability discrimination cases under Titles I, II and III of the ADA, and analogous state and local laws. Rachel enjoys providing in-depth client counseling services, as well as direct advocacy services through negotiation and representation in administrative and judicial forums. Rachel also manages EFE’s Employment Rights Helpline, which aims to expand employment opportunities by providing legal and practical advice to applicants and individuals with disabilities. Rachel is a frequent trainer on the disability rights laws and speaks regularly at national conferences and webinars. Prior to Equip for Equality, Rachel worked as an Assistant Attorney General in the Civil Rights Bureau and Disability Rights Bureau of the Illinois Attorney General’s Office, a labor and employment associate at Sidley Austin LLP, and a law clerk for Chief Judge James G. Carr in the Northern District of Ohio. Before law school, Rachel worked as an ADA technical assistance specialist at the Mid-Atlantic ADA Center, and during law school interned with EFE and the Disability Rights Section of the U.S. Department of Justice. Rachel is also a recipient of the Chicago Bar Foundation Sun-Times Public Interest Law Fellowship. Rachel is a graduate of the University of Michigan and Northwestern University School of Law.
