August 2018 - Three Rivers District Update

Mary Abbott, LCSW

Hello Three Rivers !

August is back-to-school! As a school social worker I am gearing up for the school year. smile

I am very exicted to be hosting an event this month .

This event is titled, “The Opiate Crisis – Clinical Interventions and Strategies To Save Lives.”

It is on August 16, 2018, from 10am to 1:00pm. This is a free event for NASW members with a working lunch provided!

Thank you to Belmont Village in Carol Stream for providing us space and lunch!

Presenter: Jeff Zacharias is an ACSW, LCSW, CSAT and CAADC and is currently the Clinical Director/Owner of New Hope Recovery Center and New Hope Counseling Center in Chicago and maintains a private practice.  His areas of clinical expertise include working within the LGBTQI community, all forms of addiction with an individuals as well as their partners, severe and persistent mental health issues as well as all forms of trauma and its impact on holistic recovery.

He has extensive experience speaking nationally and internationally on issues related to addiction, mental health, trauma and the LGBTQI community.  He is on the Board of Directors for the NALGAP, is currently the Chicago Chair of NASW-IL and was recently awarded the 2015 NASW-IL Social Worker of the Year.

The use of opioids – whether heroin, prescription medication or synthetic products – are at a crisis level in the United States.  Nothing in recent memory has impacted individuals across every social construct than the abuse/misuse of opioids.  As a response to the crisis, there exists a dire need to explore all methods as being of value in order to formulate strategies and evidence based practices to stem the tide of destruction.  This requires a broad systems based approach rather than a one size fits all approach in order to affect change.  This workshop will explore multiple avenues to wellness to address the crisis and give attendees tools and strategies which can be utilized immediately in their communities, schools and practices in order to changes the lives of everyone who is impacted.
