Kenna Dunlap Johnson, MBA, MSW, LCSW

Hello East Central District Members!

The month of May seemed to fly by as we closed out the academic year.  Summer is quickly approaching.  We have some great events planned throughout the state this summer and I hope to see you at some of these upcoming events.  Please read on for more information on these upcoming events, chapter news and a new addition to the update entitiled, "Social Workers in Action".

Social Workers in Action:

As social workers, we have an ethical obligation to promote social justice, equity, and inclusion.  This often means working to create structural changes in the institutions of society and dismantling systems that are oppressive.  As social workers, we should be on the front lines of these efforts.  The following is a listing of social action organizations that are already very active in the East Central Illinois District and social workers' participation would be welcome:

NASW Statewide Election

Congratulations to the New NASW Illinois Chapter Board of Directors who will begin their term on July 1, 2017.  Thank you to those who have served previously.  A special thanks to outgoing president Don Phelps.  It has been a pleasure serving with you Don!  A big thanks also goes to all those who ran for a seat and volunteered to offer their time for such an important association that supports the social work profession.
