Hello Again East Central District Members and Happy Social Work Month!

Social Work Month is here, finally!  This year's theme is "Social Workers: Leaders. Advocates. Champions." Daily, our nation's 650,000 social workers are leaders, advocates and champions who make our society a better place to live.  I want to say THANK YOU to all social workers for their challenging and heartfelt work for our communities.

With March now here, Social Work Month events are all on the calendar.  Events are occuring across the state.  I encourage you to check out the current NASW-IL Calendar at the following link:


March East Central District Event: "Almost Sunrise: A gateway into educatoin on PTSD and Moral Injury in the Veteran Population"

When: Friday, March 16th from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm

Join us for a screening of the award-winning documentary, "Almost Sunrise", which follows 2 veterans on their journey towards healing.  A panel of expert speakers will discuss Post Traumatic Stress Disorder within the Veteran Community.  This event will take place at the VA Illiana Health Care System in Danville.  Up to 4 Cultural Competency CEUs will be offered - FREE for NASW members!  For more information and to REGISTER, please visit the following link:

Illinois State University School of Social Work's "Social Work Day 2018: Dimensions of Resiliency"

When: Monday, March 26th from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm

Where: Illinois State University Alumni Center (see link for address)

This year's SWK day conference will be centered around "resilience" as it relates to personal and professional arenas of life.  Being mindful, working with difficult populations and overcoming the odds as we hear from students and their perspectives of what resilence means to them.  This day long conference includes featured Keynote Speaker Kevin Hines, a supervision panel and an MSW student panel.
