September 2018 - Three Rivers District Update

Mary Abbott, MSW, LCSW

Hello Three Rivers!

Happy Labor Day and back to school...apple picking.....fall colors! Fall is by far my favorite season!

Back to school is a very busy time for me. In addition to working for the school district, I am also an adjunct professor, so back to school time means back to reality!

I want to thank Jeff Zacharias ACSW,LCSW,CSAT,CAADC from New Hope Recovery Center in Chicago for presenting for my August event. The topic was on the opiate crisis. Jeff's presesntation was so informative and very well recieved by the attendees. He is well informed and invested in providing addiction services and has a special passion for treating the LGBTQ community. Here is contact information for Jeff for anyone who wants a great resource!  .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)         www.new-hope-recovery.com

My next event will be in November with date and time TBA. I will be co-hosting this event with Streamwood Behavioral Health Hospital. The speaker will be Dr. Julia DiGangi. She is a neuropsychologist and a yoga instructor. She received her PhD from DePaul University and completed her doctoral internship at the Boston Consortium where she held appointments as a Clinical Fellow at Harvard Medical School and a Teaching Fellow at Boston University School of Medicine. Her area of expertise is stress and the brain. The title of the event is, "What Treating the Whole Brain Actually Means: Neurobehavioral Health in Children and Adolescents." This event will introduce the participant to neurobehavioral health concepts and the recent research regarding neurobehavioral health. Additionally, participants will gain knowledge about interventions, treatment strategies, and an integrated model of care. Stay tuned for more information about this event. I will be sending out the registration information at the end of the month.

The chapter will be hosting our biannual The Business of Social Work conference on Thursday, October 25, 2018. Registration is now live with more information about the day's workshops to come. There will be the potential to earn 6.0 CEUs at the conference. To register now for early bird rates, go to: https://naswbiz.eventbrite.com
