August 2012 - West Central District Update
West Central District Update for August 2012
West Central Chair: Audrey LeMasters, Phd, LCSW
I would like to welcome Jessica Hamilton to the West Central District. We are pleased to have you join us.
Chapter News
Registration for the 2012 NASW Regional Virtual Symposium is now live! Taking place on Thursday, September 20, 2012, the symposium will take place virtually with limited on-site seating available. To find out more or to register, go to http://www.naswil.org.
We are still seeking contributors to the Networker magazine. If you are a social worker in private practice or school social work, please contact us for details on contributing an article: http://naswil.org/naswil/contact-us/.
Free CEU Opportunities
We are continuing to provide free CEU opportunities. Anyone is welcome to attend the event, but only NASW members can receive the free CEU. There is a $10 charge for anyone who wants a CEU and is not a member of NASW Illinois. The event for August will be Treatment of Challenging Anxiety Cases by Chris Bruell. Remember that a CEU event is scheduled for the third Friday of each month. The events are held at the Methodist Atrium building in Peoria from 9:00 to 10:00am. These events are not only informative, but they are a great way to network and meet others in the mental health community. I am currently working on scheduling more events. If you have a topic you would like to more information about or you have a topic you would like to share, please come e-mail me at: .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
Did You Know...?
One of the many benefits to being a NASW member is to have a method to advocate for yourself and your clients through a larger organization. The NASW is actively advocating on both a local and national level. To read more, go to http://www.naswil.org and hit the link at the top of the page titled "Advocacy". Here you can read more about legislation that is relevant to the work that social workers are doing. There are also easy methods provided so that you can get involved.
This Month's Challenge
Believe it or not, we are approaching the end of 2012. I want to begin planning for 2013. There are a few things to consider. Licensing renewal will be due in 2013. If you have ideas for an ethics training you would like to attend, please let me know. Do you have any ideas about district events you would like to attend? What would you like to see us do differently in the district? I would like to hear from you. Please feel free to e-mail me with any ideas you have.
Sincerely,
Audrey LeMasters
