10/27/21 UPDATE: Just this afternoon, we received clarification from the department for those individuals whose employers, insurance panels, etc., require a current license to maintain employment or to bill. We have just been informed that the IDFPR License Lookup page will be updated with the new extended February 28, 2022, expiration date before November 30, 2021. You should be able to download a copy of your licensure status with the new extended date soon once the department has updated the License Lookup page.
In the meanwhile, you can download the variance language IDFPR issued about the renewal extension (see link at bottom of article) and submit that to any entity that may require updated information.
Below is an update of an earlier article about the delay in renewal for LSW and LCSW licensees.
We have been notified of an extension by Illinois Department of Financial & Professional Regulation (IDFPR) on the current renewal period previously beginning on December 1, 2019 and ending on November 30, 2021. A variance has been granted by IDFPR which now extends the deadline from November 30, 2021, to February 28, 2022.
This variance means your license will not expire on December 1, 2021, and will remain active until the extended renewal deadline of February 28, 2022. Previously published language that said you must have all of your CEUs by November 30, 2021, has been further clarified here.
Due to updates IDFPR is currently undertaking to transition to an upgraded renewal system, the variance was granted to extend the renewal deadline as LSW and LCSW licenses are not yet available/posted for renewal. The deadline extension will allow for applicants to apply for licensure when it is made available by the department through February 28, 2022. IDFPR has informed us that all licensees will be sent an e-mail with renewal instructions once renewal officially opens.
At this point, the IDFPR system upgrade DOES NOT affect first-time LSW or LCSW applicants.
