Dear Illinois Social Workers,
As we come together following Election Night 2024, I know many of you may be experiencing a sense of uncertainty about what the future holds-for our profession, for the communities we serve, and for the values that drive us as social workers. While we celebrated some local victories-including the election of another MSW candidate to state office-several state races remain undecided. One thing though is clear: there is important work ahead.
At times like these, it's natural to wonder: What comes next? What will this mean for the vulnerable populations we support, the policies we champion, and our mission as advocates for justice, dignity, and equity?
Today, I want to remind you that this is exactly why NASW exists-to ensure that we are never alone in facing these challenges. We are a collective force, and our strength is found in each other, especially during pivotal moments like this.
NASW Illinois stands firm in our commitment to advocate on behalf of the social work profession and those you serve. Whatever political shifts may come, our dedication to equity, inclusion, and justice remains unwavering. But to truly make an impact, we must unite, organize, and move forward with shared purpose.
This election underscores that real change comes from collective action. Each of you is more than a social worker-you are advocates, change-makers, and voices for a better world.
Together, we can continue to make a difference. The road ahead may have challenges, but it's in these moments that our profession shines brightest.
And please, as social workers on the front lines, remember to take care of yourselves. Consider stepping back, even briefly, to recharge. Disconnect from the news, take a break from social media, and allow yourself a moment to breathe. Taking time for self-care is essential, especially during periods like this.
Thank you for your resilience, your dedication, and your belief in the power of social work.
Together, we will rise to meet this moment.
Warm regards,
Joel
