NASW applauds introduction of the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act

NASW-IL Staff

Washington, D.C. - The National Association of Social Workers (NASW) has long been committed to voting rights and applauds the introduction of the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act (VRAA). The VRAA modernizes and strengthens the Voting Rights Act and reaffirms the nation's commitment to voter equality and the right to vote, core principles of democracy and essential tools for advancing racial and social justice. As the nation grapples with increasing voter suppression efforts, the burden of which falls hardest on Black, Latino, Asian, Native, and LGBTQIA2S+ individuals, NASW applauds the VRAA for including urgently-needed tools to combat discriminatory voting practices and eagerly lends its support for passage of the bill into law.

The National Association of Social Workers (NASW), in Washington, DC, is the largest membership organization of professional social workers. It promotes, develops, and protects the practice of social work and social workers. NASW also seeks to enhance the well-being of individuals, families, and communities through its advocacy.
